Chemical industry
The chemical industry is one of the largest branches in the Slovenian manufacturing sector in terms of both turnover, in particular, value added. Pharmaceuticals accounts for 32% of industry turnover, followed by plastics transforming with 22%, and rubber products with nearly 14%. The Slovenian chemical industry also manufactures basic chemicals, paints and varnishes, man-made fibres, detergents and cleaning products (incl. cosmetics), adhesives etc.

In 2007 industry turnover was €4.6 billion, of which €3.3 billion was exported mainly to the EU. Russia and Croatia are also important markets. The sector employs 27,400.

National association
The Slovenian national chemicals association, ACIS, has around 90 member companies including pharmaceutical, rubber and plastic products manufacturers, and is the officially recognised representative organisation of the sector. Its mission is to advance the operating conditions of member companies in the field of industrial and labour market policy.
