Chemical industry
The chemical sector is Sweden’s third largest export industry. The rapid development of new materials and applications has resulted in growing demand for chemicals, and means the plastics and chemicals sector plays an important role as a partner in the development of new products and processes.

The sector encompasses both smaller companies and multinational enterprises. Chemical production is concentrated at around 50 sites belonging to some 20 main companies, clustered around Stockholm, in the far south of Sweden and in the western part of the country. Plastics manufacturing involves nearly 700 companies. In total, the chemicals and plastics sector employs around 50,000.

National association
The Swedish plastics and chemicals federation, P&K, has 240 member companies, of which more than 85% are SMEs (less than 250 employees)
Most member companies belong to the Responsible Care initiative.
P&K’s mission is to support its member companies in fostering long term growth and development in a sustainable society, with a commitment to continuous improvement regarding safety, health and environment.  It has targeted three main areas – public policy, public trust and member service. It also provides training and education to member companies.
