Chemical industry
Hungarian chemical industry output represents over 16% of the country’s processing industry which has total turnover of around €7 billion About 1/3 of output comes from plastics raw material production, 1/3 from pharmaceuticals, and 1/3 from others including fertilizers, paints and basic chemicals. About 60% of output is exported mainly to the EU 27. Some 85% of the industry is foreign owned, and it is fully privatized.

National association
The Hungarian Chemical Industry Association (MAVESZ) was established in 1989 to represent the chemical industry’s professional/economic interests. Key areas of activity include: regulatory advice, representation of employers in dealings with trade unions and others, international advocacy, organization of special seminars and conferences, general improvement of the image of the chemical industry and relations with the media. Sector associations linked to MAVESZ cover plastics converting; plastic pipe manufacturing; paints; and agrochemicals.
