Chemical industry
The Greek chemical industry is relatively small compared to other EU member states and is made up of downstream users of chemicals rather than chemicals manufacturers.

National association
The Hellenic Association of Chemical Industries (HACI) was founded in February 1994 by the 28 largest companies involved in chemical production, storage, and trading in Greece. Today members include four branch associations: Panhellenic Union of Paints, Varnish and Ink Manufacturers (PUPVIM), Hellenic Association of Industrial and Medical Gases (HAIMG), Hellenic Association of Expanded Polystyrene Producers (EPS), and Hellenic Crop Protection Association (HCPA), together with 75 member companies representing more than 80% of Greece’s chemical activities. HACI has been a full member of Cefic member since June 1994.

The scope of the association is the study and resolution of issues which in general affect the chemical industries in the following sectors:
• Technical, industrial, financial, commercial, social and legal
• Environmental protection
• Hygiene and safety of employees
• Quality assurance
• Statistical research and elaboration of statistical data
The association co-operates with civil institutions, other scientific and professional organizations, the European Union and international organizations. It does not participate in collective negotiations with organized labour.

HACI adopted Responsible Care in 1994; more than 70% of members are signatories. A restructuring of the programme is scheduled for 2009.
