Chemical industry
The chemical industry is one of the most dynamic sectors in Argentina’s economy. It accounts for 4.9 % of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs more than 52,000 people. In 2001, chemical industry production was valued at US$16.7 billion, and generated US$2.2 billion in exports. Mercosur and other countries in Latin America are the main markets, although exports to USA, Europe and Asia are also important. A significant number of small and medium sized enterprises are now exporting fine chemicals and specialties to more than 40 countries around the world.

National association
CIQyP represents about 120 member companies that account for over 80% of all chemical and petrochemical output. Members range from large to medium and small enterprises, both domestic and foreign owned, with activities restricted to specific subsectors or belonging to highly integrated groups of companies. The hundreds of products made by these companies include organic and inorganic chemical products; basic, intermediate and end use chemicals, such as polymers, synthetic rubber, fibers and solvents, as well as additives, pigments and dyestuffs, agrochemicals, surface-active agents and other chemical specialties.

CIQyP’s mission is to facilitate the growth and sustained development of its members and of the chemical and petrochemical industry in Argentina. The association employs 15 staffers.
